Don’t go it alone.

Research shows us that if you’re looking to make behavioral changes, you are likely to have more success when you include group work. At Virginia Health Counseling, we carefully create comfortable, enjoyable group settings where you can find meaning, authenticity, and support you may not realize you need until you experience it. If you’re “not a group person”, we challenge you to give it a try and see how our style is different.

We offer frequent workshops and groups on topics related to mental and physical wellness: self image, habit formation, the science of behavior change, motivation, boundaries, physical activity, and relationships.

Chronic Pain Support Group

With chronic pain, your body can feel like the enemy. Your medical providers may be at a loss for more they can do, and that can feel lonely. You may feel cut off from others or the activities you enjoy.

Instead of focusing on what feels broken, this group orients toward connection and support. I use the practices of Somatic Experiencing and Inner Relationship Focusing to bring a trauma-informed approach to healing. You’ll discover ways to feel more at ease in your body and maybe make friends with a body that has sometimes felt in pain and sometimes or out of your control. You’ll regain a sense of you that is not in relationship to your pain.

This online group will run for 6 weeks on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 PM-6:30 PM,  April 16, 23, 30 and May 7, 14, 21. Email to schedule a free consultation and see if this group feels like a good fit for you. Each session is $50.

Virtual Weight & Wellness

Psycho-Education & Support Group

If you struggle with eating habits and body image, if you feel unable to find motivation for self-care and physical activity, this group is designed for you. We provide structured psycho-education and social support in a nonjudgmental setting.

We do not focus on weight loss; instead we address the root issues that commonly contribute to unhelpful behaviors. Many factors play a part in producing the number that shows up on the scale. Each week we highlight one of these factors. An intake call is required before joining. Facilitated by Michelle O’Brien & Molly Hurt.

Self-Help Book Club

For better or for worse, the world is flush with self-help, pop-psychology books.

In our online, monthly book club meetings, we choose some of the best-sellers to discuss with you live via Zoom. Discussions are facilitated by licensed therapists and limited to 10 members per meeting, in order to cultivate discussion.

Note: This is a book club, not therapy! We take the content very seriously but ourselves not so much. The environment will be earnest but informal and probably irreverent at times. If you’re looking for an academic review of your favorite self-help books, this is probably not the club for you. If you’d like to spend time with others who want to learn and grow, you’ll fit right in!

This month’s pick is Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking

We meet online via Zoom. Meetings last for 75 minutes and the fee is $25. Reservations are required to attend and are non-refundable.
